This entry is a writing prompt I did the other night. The prompt is to write a scene that starts with someone saying “Cut.” Feel free to give it a try yourself!

“Cut!!!”
The lights on set shifted as the director made the call. The whole world seemed to come back into focus as the scene they were just filming ended. The imaginary walls boxing in the the isolated world of the set and scene melted away as cast and crew began to chatter.
Jessica sighed as she watched the hustle and bustle of the set, the camera and audio crews went about checking their equipment. She sat back in her chair thinking about the scene they’d just shot. A chill ran down her spine like a cold bead of water as she shot straight up… actually, it was a cold bead of water. The woman turned around, eyebrows lowered in a glare.
“What was that for?” she inquired.
“Brought you water.” another young woman with short, unevenly cropped black hair in a visor and athletic wear replied nonchalantly, handing over the water bottle. She opened her own and brought it to her lips as she looked out at all the crew members working and chatting.
Jessica begrudgingly took the water without a word, twisting the top off and returning her gaze to the set in the villa’s garden. She narrowed her eyes as the waning light of the sun was descending behind the structure’s ivy ridden walls.
“Weather looks clear. Should we reschedule the night shoot for tonight?”
Jessica glanced up at her friend and assistant director, probing her for thoughts on the film’s current time line.
“I think the team would be game for it but…”
“They deserve a night off?”
“Yeah, I know the schedule is tight, but we’ve been working them pretty hard recently as it is, if they don’t get a break soon they’re liable to mutiny.”
Jessica gave a half smile and a short laugh at the joke as she stood up from her chair and stretched out her legs and back.
“It’s for the best, I was just thinking that I didn’t think the lighting would be good for the sunset scene anyway.”
“Not to mention we don’t have the dress for that scene on hand.”
“That would be a problem wouldn’t it?”
“Should I make the call?”
“Be my guest.”
“ALL RIGHT EVERYONE, THAT’S A WRAP FOR TODAY YOU HAVE THE NIGHT OFF!!”
A light cheer came as a response. The crew seemed excited to get to explore the locale a little more than they’d had a chance to so far. The same could be said for the two directors who had begun to leave themselves.
“What do you wanna grab to eat?”
“…Gelato?” after a bit of thought, the woman in the visor replied.
“Ume… you can’t just have ice cream for dinner.”
“I don’t see why not though?”
Jessica let out a sigh, resigning herself to at least one serving of gelato while they looked for something a little more filling to eat. The pair dropped by their hotel room to change before heading out on the town.
